How To Use This Guide?

This guide contains a lot of very useful information to help get you started, but you might need to do some additional research and learn about how to use a few free tools and services if you want to learn this all by yourself.

It’s no secret that one of the quickest ways to start making money online is with affiliate marketing, but what is it and how can you get started?

Even if you know what affiliate marketing is we’d still recommend that you go through this introduction, particularly if you haven’t had much success yet, there are a few tips in here that could really help you to move forwards.

What Is Affiliate Marketing?

If you don’t know how it works then a simple explanation would be that it involves you sending visitors to another persons website where they have products or services for sale. If one of the visitors you sent then makes a purchase, you receive a commission amount, and that’s how you make money.

The big advantage for you to get started with affiliate marketing is that there doesn’t have to be hardly any cost or investment. In fact, you can make a start for virtually nothing and once you know what you’re doing it can be scaled up massively.

You don’t stock or handle the products, manage payments and refunds, or have to deal with customer service, all you have to do is concentrate on sending traffic to the merchants website.

How Does Affiliate Marketing Work?

To send traffic to the merchants website and make sure that you will get your commissions, you will usually need to get visitors to come to a piece of your own content on the internet first. This is usually an article which could be in an article directory, on a  blog, or your own website.

In your content you will have an affiliate link, when someone clicks that link they are taken to the merchants website. Usually when someone clicks through on your link, a so called “cookie” is generated that makes a note of your affiliate i.d.

What that means is that you should get commission for any purchase that person makes from the merchants site within a set time period, usually about 30 days but it can be longer. Sometimes these cookies are for a specific product, other times they apply to any purchases made.

As well as commissions for products or services sales, you can also find affiliate programs that will pay on a cost per action (cpa) basis. For example when someone supplies their name and email in return for a product sample.

How Much Money Can You Make With Affiliate Marketing?

That’s really an impossible question to answer, for each individual person or company it depends on many factors.

It can range from people who struggle to get started and make any money at all, to those who can make tens of thousands a month. There are plenty of individuals who make a very good living doing affiliate marketing.

Commissions can vary a lot, on digitally down-loadable products like software, eBooks, and courses they can be up to 75%, on physical products they tend to be between 4-20%.

So for example, if you promoted a $47 eBook with a 75% commission you would get about $35 commission for each sale you refer.

It’s all about how many visitors you send that then make a purchase.

If your commission was $35 on each sale:

• 10 sales a week = $350
• 20 sales a week = $700
• 30 sales a week = $1,050

How many visitors do you think you would have to send to get 20 sales each week?

How To Get Your Content Online

Remember this involves getting your own content online with your affiliate links in it, so how can you do that?

The fastest and easiest way is to write short articles, usually about 400 words, and submit them to article directory sites. You will probably have seen articles from sites such as Ezinearticles.com when you search on the internet, some articles get visitors by people finding them in the search results, some also get visitors when people go to the article directories.

If the article is reasonable, it will probably get published on other peoples websites as well. So over a couple of months just one article might get a few thousand visits, and it’ll be there for a long time after that.

Another way is to use your articles on free hosted sites such as Squidoo, Hubpages, or Blogger, there are hundreds more to choose from. You can basically build your own one page “site” or blog if you use blogger, but you won’t own them.

Even if they have started with article marketing, most affiliate marketers will eventually have their own website, or websites.

This by far the best option because you will then have your own “online real estate” which you could possibly sell in the future.

An affiliate website making about $500 profit a month will often sell for around $9,000-$12,000!

Do I Need To Be A Computer Whiz Kid To Do This?

Simple answer – Definitely Not!

Affiliate marketing is about marketing products or services to earn a commission.

It is not about being an expert at website construction, design, or writing. If you have some of those skills then it can certainly help, but most people no matter what skills they possess, will have to learn quite a lot that is new to them when just starting out.

Much of what you need to learn is quite straight forward and not too technical, it is realistically possible to do just about all of this yourself to start with, particularly if you get the right support.

If you have a little spare cash to invest you could always pay someone to do the tasks you don’t want to do, or find difficult. When you know where to go you can get articles written for less than $5 each, website header graphics for less than $20, or a complete website installed with some basic content for about $75.

Many will start out doing everything themselves, but once making some profit it can really help to speed your progress by outsourcing some of the tasks, and this is how you can really start to scale up your business.

Knowing what to do and then putting it into practice is how to achieve the results you want.

You might sometimes hear about people failing with internet marketing, but in a lot of cases the truth is…

They didn’t really fail – they just never really got going!
